This past fall our family had the opportunity to go to Fort Bragg for our family vacation. It was a great time. There are far too many things that happened, and too many stories to tell here on a blog. You just have to hear them in person.
What I will tell you is that I went into the trip knowing that it was going to be an amazing photographic opportunity. I went in with specific photographic "strategies", but my main goal was to figure out the best way to capture the amazing beauty of Fort Bragg.
A great deal of my passion for photography comes from the desire to capture the absolute beauty of God's creation. Almost all of my best pictures are from nature. With that being said, I do not consider myself to be a pure "naturalist", but I think that "naturalism" is one of the strengths of photography: to be able to capture a single moment of beauty and keep it.
On occasion, especially when I feel like debating pointless arguments, I will ask my older sisters "does a tree that fall in the forest REALLY make noise? Nobody was there to see it..." and the obvious answer to this question is an absolute "Yes! Of course!" However, I can pose the same question in a different light: does beauty happen even when we are not there to see it?
This question seems to be an obvious "Yes! Of course!" when one first hears the question - but let's think about it more. What is beauty? Technically in order for something to be beautiful it has to be "dubbed" as beautiful. Beauty is not the same as height, width, density, or color; it is a mental value assigned to an object. If it is a "mental value" that we place on an object, then the beauty is not inherent in the object.
I say all this only to try and make you think. God has creating his earth as beautiful. He declared it as "good". I would argue that there actually is inherent beauty in things. Is it measured and valued to different degrees by different people? Absolutely, but that does not negate that beauty exists... even if we are not there to witness it.
That's why God created cameras. To capture the beauty of God through His creation. I think that these moments of beauty are gifts from God and should be cherished. There are so many pictures that accomplish the capturing of this beauty; however, on the flip side, how many moments of pure beauty that God has granted us that we have lost or forgotten?

This was a picture from last season... Although you can't tell in this picture; it was a foggy day. This is one of those pictures that I can't wait until there is another day just like it to go back and give it another shot!

| It has become increasingly obvious to me that my need for this blog in its current state is ever decreasing. I neither have the time or energy to write paragraph after paragraph as I did in years past. However, my xanga blog reminds me of some pretty hilarious things:
- Writing multi-part stories who seem to all be written by me, but in actuality was written by two authors alternating at each part.
- Telling incredibly long and drawn out stories and then remembering Mom telling me "Austin, you can write a five page xanga story, but you can't finish this two page paper?"
- Going back and reading my old posts. There is nothing quite like remembering an event that happened in the past when one has blogged about it; this includes remembering how I felt during various events over the four years of my blog as well as remembering how far that God brings us in maturity: I read my old posts and just shake my head from the goofy-ness of it all.
So for now I am saying goodbye to my xanga of old.
But say hello to my new Photoblog!
I'll post a few random pictures every here and there to update what is generally going on. However, the real purpose will be to just show some of my more recent photography. Should be fun!
